Cason Chittum Obituary, Nacogdoches, TX Death, 33-year-old dies after complications from diabetes

The Nacogdoches, Texas community is mourning the loss of Cason Randyl Chittum, a beloved son, father, brother, and friend. Born on August 28, 1992, to Richie and Melanie Chittum, Cason’s life was marked by resilience, strength, and unwavering love. As the third of three boys, he entered this world tough as nails—qualities that would define him throughout his life.

From an early age, Cason displayed remarkable resilience. At just two years old, he endured pepper spray in his eyes without shedding a tear, and at five, he bravely faced a dog attack that resulted in a broken nose and facial injuries, requiring hours in emergency care. His toughness was evident from childhood, but it was his kind heart and spirit that truly defined him.

Cason loved basketball, excelling at Diboll High School, and was naturally gifted with his hands. He enjoyed working in construction and became a talented mechanic, taking pride in honest, hard work. Whether building, repairing, or figuring out how things worked, Cason found joy in creating with his own hands. His love for life extended beyond work; he enjoyed outdoor adventures, time at the beach, and had a special fondness for animals.

Despite being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age twelve, Cason never let the disease diminish his spirit. Though health challenges increased over the years, his kindness, humor, and love for his family remained constant. In his final months, he faced severe complications—losing his right eye and later his left leg. Even amid unimaginable pain, he kept his humor alive, joking about being a “peg-leg pirate.”

Cason’s greatest blessings were his children—Cashlyn, Carter, and Samuel—whom he loved dearly and was immensely proud of. His relationship with his brothers Chad and Codee was a cherished bond that endured despite life’s changes. Family was at the core of his life, and he treasured every moment with them.

In recent years, Cason’s faith grew stronger. He found comfort in his relationship with God and believed he had been welcomed into the arms of Jesus, where he is now whole and at peace. His mother, Melanie, remained faithfully by his side, her unwavering love a source of strength for him.

Cason’s passing leaves a profound void, but his legacy of resilience, love, and faith endures. He is survived by his children, family, friends, and a community that loved him dearly. A visitation and funeral service will be held at Community Apostolic of Nacogdoches on Thursday, July 16, 2026, beginning with visitation at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. Officiated by Pastor Chad Chittum, Pastor Lawrence Powell, and Pastor Brent Crosswhite, the service will honor his life and memory.

Cason’s life was a testament to strength, love, and faith—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
